When we encounter the words disciple/discipleship, we interpret these words through our individual set of glasses or our way of viewing reality. The aim of this book is to broaden that reality by looking at this area through a different set of lenses. This will inevitably cause some discomfort and disorientation for a time until we adjust and discover our view is now clearer. My hope is that the Holy Spirit will grab your attention and engage your heart because as we look at the word “discipleship”, it needs to be through new lenses that consider the continuous whole of life response of a person to Jesus Christ. Everything a person believes and does is an aspect of discipleship.
Discipleship is a subject that often comes to the surface in my conversation with Pastors and ministry leaders today. The focus on the topic has increased even in the last five years, suggesting a perceived need to better understand how effective discipleship happens. When I ask leaders, “What does the word Discipleship mean to you?” the answers are almost as varied as the people I talk to. The follow-up question I use with leaders, “How is your current approach working for you?” often surprises them and they usually don’t know, having been focused on the many other activities that claim their attention in the daily run of ministry. At the same time, the majority are puzzled by the lack of seeming engagement and connectedness with God on the part of many of their people.

What people are saying about the Author and ‘As You Go: Make Disciples’

Colin Noyes is one of the sharpest international leaders I know. His insights into the field of discipleship are well-researched and honest, and he does a great job of challenging us to see it through fresh eyes. Eminently practical, As You Go, Make Disciples gives you the tools you need to move forward.

Dr. Bob Logan, church planter, author and coach. USA

Having a clear idea about discipleship and how it is embedded into the life of the church is one of the critically important issues in becoming the people-movement that Jesus intended us to be. Colin has produced a needed introduction to this very topic in his latest book.

As You Go…Make Disciples. This thought has revolutionised the way I approach personal faith sharing and discipleship. This may sound a strange admission by someone who has been a believer for over 30 years, a pastor for over 20 years, and a coach of Christian leaders for over 13 years. Statistics show that the longer a person is a believer in Christ, the less effective they tend to be in personally sharing faith and making new disciples. I was living proof that these statistics are valid.

Colin Noyes has discipled me on ‘making disciples’. The result – I am pleased to be able to say I have been more effective in making disciples in the few years since, than all the previous years combined. And it doesn’t end there. I have been able to pass this on to other disciples to do the same. And now, Colin and Judith have penned their thoughts in As You Go: Make Disciples. My greatest encouragement for you is to read it, learn from it, practice it, and reproduce it in others. IT WORKS, and The Harvest awaits.
